HOW TO CREAT GHOST IMAGE OF WINDOWS-7 & WINDOWS-8 (32bit and 64 bit) FOR FREE...

WINDOWS 7 & WINDOWS 8  BACKUP PROCEDURE

(GHOST IMAGE CREATION STEPS)


1st Review following things BEFORE YOU START.
(Consider C drive as your Window drive)

1. You have Hiren's Boot CD 10+ version
Download Hiren's Boot CD here.

After download burn Hiren Boot .iso image to a CD using any CD burner.
2. You must have spare space available on any drive other than C drive or external USB Disk for C drive backup. (Check Properties of C drive for used space)

3. You should be aware that Windows-7 usually installs on two partitions i.e. C partition and a hidden partition (system) see image below:



So you have to make image of both "system" and "C " partitions.

Let's Start making ghost of your windows 7...Follow following steps.

Before you start make sure you have plugged in your external USB drive if you want to creat ghost image on external USB drive.

1. Insert you Hiren's Bootable CD into cd room, reboot and boot your machine from CD ROM. (check your BIOS settings for boot device priority
.
2. At welcom screen of hirens cd select "mini windows xp" option.



3. At welcome screen of hirens cd select "mini windows xp" option. wait until desktop of mini window appears.

4. double click "HBCD Menu icon" on desktop


5. Go to Menu>Backup>Ghost32 (Click, yes, OK)



6. After Ghost starts go to "Local > Partition > To Image"


7. Select your Hard disk from the list where on which your windows 7 is installed & press OK.




8. Now Select your Window-7 Partition i.e. C parition from the list & press ok.
Note: You will see a primary partition named "System" at top of partition list which may be about 100 to 200 mb in size.

9. Brows to the loaction where you want to save your window's ghost image, give name to the image and press save. (select any compression option i.e. No/Fast/High. I use No). After clicking NO proceed with yes.


10. Image creation starts with percentage. After 100% completed click continue.


Ghost of C drive has been completed.
Now you have to make ghost of "system" partition same as you have made ghost of C drive.
To create image of "system" partition follow step 1 to 8 then select "system" partition from the list and follow step 9 to 10.
(So you have image of two partitions i.e. "system" & "C" partition for windows 7 image backup).


That's all creating windows-7 ghost. (Please Put Your Comments....Thanks. Shakeel Ahmad)

      Steps to install/restore ghost image is as under:

      (Start from step 6 above)

      i)After Ghost starts go to "Local > Partition > From Image

      ii) locate the ghost images you created for c drive and system drive (1st select image for system drive)

      iii) Select your Hard disk from the list where you want to restore your image and press OK

      iv) select your desired target partition e.g. "system" and press ok. go to next steps and restore the image on "system" partition. when completed repeat step i-iv for "C drive".

      v) restart your computer. Thats all restoring your Window-7 ghost.

      (Note: you can restore C partion only. it will work.)

      Yes you can save on USB. but before restoration it is better to copy image on internal HDD.

      Dear Haohan Tan!
      It is necessary to have a ghost image of same machine (at least same motherboard) on which you are going to restore. However if you have installed new device, the ghost restoration will be successful but you may have to only install the driver of new device after restoration. Take Care

      If you restore clone of one pc on another pc with same mother board and it does not work there may be the reason that you have not activated "system" partition of target pc. To do this you can use any partitioning software in Mini XP (Hirens CD). Take Care

      It is because "dos of win98" just read FAT file system it is unable to read NTFS file system of window-7 Partitions so just follow the steps as I hv described. Take Care

      which file? Hiren.iso? if yes. you need a CD burner like Nero CD burner or ISO Magic for this file to be burned on CD.

      The files need to use KuaiZip to extract instead of WINRAR. If using WINRAR, you might get error forever. After extract with KuaiZip, then rar again with RAR then change the extension file name to something.iso . Now you can use any type of CD Burner to burn into without problem.

      Yes you can save window's image on D drive and restore from same locations. But you need hiren's cd to run Ghost software for restoration

      This is the same procedur.
      But why you need ghost image of VMware Virtual Macine?
      Simply have a backup of the folder having Virtual machine by copy/past that will work.

      Your Mini XP cd may be corrupt.
      Alternatly, restart your computer and chooose "start Hirens CD" instead of starting Mini XP. Then choose backup and Ghost. This way you can run Ghost software.

      The image of your Windows partition and system partition are needed only. it does not matter where you hv installed drivers and other softwares. So simply restore you image to C drive and dont delete your softwares folder in D drive.

    Why cant we use Disk >Disk option instead of making images of multiple partitions ? As i have concern on creation of partitions whenever we get new HDD it usually comes with single partition so i just wont to avoid of creating "system" partition and "C:\" partition.

      Dear Rilwan. There is no need to burn that file to bootable CD. Just keep that file in HDD and use Hiren's Boot CD to boot your PC for restoration of Ghost.
